But experts say bamboo is an invasive plant that spreads rapidly and can damage houses, much like the notorious Japanese knotweed. Shoots of the oriental plant have been found in people's homes after breaking through from their garden and experts are now calling for it to be sold with a warning to inform members of the public of the risk it poses.
