Because of the miniscule chances of turning the actual sport into a career, these athletes need to appreciate the opportunity they are given to earn an education. If Universities across the country were allowed to pay their athletes, the recruiting system would be even more uneven towards the richer and more desirable Universities. Because of the wealth some Universities possess, the athletes would be drawn to the places with more money, like gators drawn to fresher and riper meat. Getting paid in money to play a sport is what separates college-athletes from professional-athletes.
Similar to the purpose of this organization today, it was established to protect student-athletes. However, in , the organization began as a result of numerous deaths among college and amateur players. It is evident that the NCAA was once an organization that truly cared about the athletes involved; the founding fathers even advocated for athletes using their talents to make a living in the offseasons. Like other college students, these athletes dedicate majority of their time and efforts towards their college classes.
